American Brad Gay survived despite jumping from a height of 4.5 kilometers with two broken parachutes. He told his amazing story to SBS.
The incident occurred 11 years ago. At the age of 21, Brad is presented with a parachute jump certificate, and he immediately decides to take advantage of this opportunity. His entire family - his parents, sisters, and their children - came to watch the jump.
Gay, who jumped from the plane in tandem with the instructor, initially landed freely for seven seconds. When the first parachute failed to open, the instructor tried to launch the emergency parachute, but it also failed.
"I felt that death was inevitable, but thinking about my family, I forgave the feeling of extreme guilt," Brad recalled. The instructor chose the lakeside on the golf course as the safest landing spot, and this decision saved both their lives.
During the landing, Brad's spine and ribs were broken, and his neck ligaments were severed. She was unable to move for four months and needed family support. Doctors diagnosed him with post-traumatic stress disorder.
"I almost lost the desire to live, but later I felt the value of my family and life again," says Brad Gay.
