Putin orders preparation for nuclear tests in Russia
Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed officials to draft proposals for testing nuclear weapons. Such tests are being considered for the first time since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Putin’s order was issued in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement about resuming nuclear tests. He tasked the Foreign Ministry, the Defense Ministry, and other relevant agencies to study the issue, discuss it at the Security Council, and prepare proposals.

The Defense Minister and Chief of Staff told Putin that preparations for nuclear tests must begin as soon as possible. Tests could be conducted at Novaya Zemlya in a short time. Experts warn that such tests could threaten global security and provoke similar actions by other nuclear powers.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said no specific deadline has been set for drafting proposals. The decision on nuclear test preparations will be made after fully understanding the intentions of the United States.
