The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has added the Datavice company, operating within Uzbekistan, to its “blacklist.” According to the official Washington website, the decision was made as part of sanctions imposed on several companies linked to Russia’s digital sector.
It is reported that on November 19, the United States announced new punitive measures against several corporations and individuals for participating in cyberattacks and assisting in circumventing existing restrictions. This is the next stage of a broad sanction mechanism applied under the CAATSA law and in response to the situation in Ukraine.
Datavice was founded in Tashkent in July of this year and has been a resident of the IT Park since July 31. According to Orginfo data, Maksim Makarov is listed as the founder, director, and chief accountant of the company. The company’s charter capital is 24 million UZS.
With the sanctions imposed, all assets of Datavice and other listed entities under U.S. jurisdiction will be frozen. In addition, any financial transactions with them are strictly prohibited. Violating these requirements may result in secondary sanctions.
The updated list includes the following companies along with Datavice:
• Media Land (Russia)
• ML.Cloud (Russia)
• Kirishi (Russia)
• Media Land Technology (Russia)
• Hypercore (United Kingdom)
• Smart Digital Ideas Doo Cyber4 (Serbia)
Additionally, five Russian citizens associated with these organizations have also been placed under restrictions. Washington stated that technological capacities are being used for military purposes or to circumvent sanctions, and emphasized that oversight will be further tightened.
In conclusion, it is noted that this decision by Washington is expected to significantly impact the region’s digital sector.
