In Portugal, a 9-year-old Brazilian child became a victim of brutal bullying at school. Euronews reports that his classmates locked him in a toilet and severed two fingertips. According to the boy's mother, Nivia Estevam, her son was forced to crawl out the door, having lost a lot of blood.
According to him, before this incident, his son had experienced violence, such as kicking, strangling, and pulling at his hair. After the injury, he underwent a three-hour operation at San Juau Hospital in Porto and is currently taking strong painkillers and antibiotics. The child is also experiencing a severe psychological shock - every night he cries remembering that situation.
The lawyers conducting the case are also checking whether there were any xenophobic factors in the attack. They accuse the school of not being able to protect the child and of clearing the scene before the arrival of specialists.
Psychologists note that the number of cases of violence in Portuguese schools has sharply increased in recent years: 4,620 cases in the 2020-2021 academic year, and 7,804 cases in 2024-2025. This indicates that the problem has reached a serious scale.
