World politics alarming news: The Telegraph writes that the administration of Donald Trump is preparing to recognize Crimea and other occupied territories of Ukraine as part of Russia to persuade the Kremlin to sign a ceasefire agreement. With this proposal, Trump is sending his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, to Moscow.
Putin's Demand and US Indifference to Europe
According to reports, the Americans' indifference to Europe's position is increasing, and they believe "Europeans can do what they want." A day earlier, Vladimir Putin also commented on this, stating that the legal recognition by Washington of Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions as Russian territory would be the central theme of peace negotiations.
The initial 28-point peace plan drafted by Steve Witkoff in collaboration with Putin’s envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, contained a clause that the US would "de facto" recognize Russian sovereignty over Crimea and the two Donbas regions. Although corrections were made to the document, it is assumed that recognizing the occupied territories as belonging to Russia may remain an integral part of the core strategy of the White House. However, it is specifically noted that Kyiv will not be forced to recognize this control.
Sharp Opposition from the European Parliament
At the same time, this plan completely contradicts the resolution of the European Parliament adopted yesterday. The European Parliament warned that EU states would never recognize the occupied territories of Ukraine. The resolution explicitly noted that Trump's "peace plan" only hinders the approach of a truce. This indicates the deepening of the geopolitical rift in the West.
