Three citizens of China were killed as a result of an organized armed attack on the state border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, Reuters reported, citing the Chinese Embassy in Tajikistan. The tragedy occurred on November 26 near the southwestern Khatlon province of Afghanistan. According to the embassy, one more Chinese citizen was injured.
Details of the Attack Orchestrated with Drones
According to the statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, all the deceased were employees of the company “Shahin SM” LLC, working in the border area. The peculiarity of the attack is that it was carried out from the territory of Afghanistan using grenade-equipped drones.
The guilty party was not named, but China called on Dushanbe to conduct a prompt investigation and urged its citizens to immediately leave the border area.
Afghanistan's Reaction
The statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan (Kabul administration) said: this incident is the work of an unknown group attempting to create disorder and distrust in the region. The Kabul administration has conducted a preliminary assessment and expressed its readiness for full cooperation with Tajikistan.
This attack indicates a further decrease in the level of security on the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border and shows that international victims are resulting from this regional unrest.
