The White House's new section: a "hall of shame" for journalists

An unprecedented event on the US political stage: a new section — "Media Offenders", launched on the official White House website, was created against media outlets misinterpreting the activities of the US authorities. This section has effectively become the "Press Hall of Shame" and was launched on November 29.

The top part of the page, under the slogan "False. Biased. EXPOSED," presented the list of "media offenders of the week". This list included The Boston Globe newspaper, the news division of the CBS News corporation, and the American editorial office of the British newspaper The Independent. The White House accused these publications of interpreting President Trump's calls for accountability for members of Congress who incited the uprising as a call for their 'execution'.

"The hall of shame for violators"

The next section — "The Hall of Shame for Violators" — contains a table with the White House administration's "list of fake media reports". It lists the media outlets, the articles that caused dissatisfaction, and their authors.

  • For example, CBS News was criticized for calling the Cuban illegal immigrant arrested 27 times a "Colorado old man" in the article's headline.

  • Politico newspaper was accused of bias and distortion of context. The reason was the publication relying on a source that called the special representative for the war in Ukraine, Stephen Witkoff, unacceptable.

Leading publications – in the list of leaders

The media outlets that made the most errors by number of "crimes" are reflected in an animated chart called the "List of Leaders" or "Race to the Bottom". The Washington Post is in the first place, followed by MSNBC, CBS News, CNN, The New York Times, Politico, and The Wall Street Journal and other major publications.

Diagram of "repeat offenders"

The "repeat offenders" diagram also includes other media outlets such as Axios, Associated Press, and the BBC corporation. Interestingly, the politics portal The Daily Beast was immediately charged with three accusations: "bias, leftist rationalism, and falsehood", although only one "violation" was recorded.

This project clearly demonstrates the unprecedented escalation of relations between the US government and the press.
