Record amount of bribe: ex-head of a company hanged in China

In China, the former head of China Huarong International Holdings, Bai Tianhui, was executed on charges of accepting a $156 million bribe. According to official data, during 2014-2018, he used his position to illegally receive large sums of money and assets.

Bai Tianhui was sentenced to death in May 2024. Her appeal was dismissed in February, and the Supreme Court upheld the verdict. After this, the sentence was carried out, and the official was hanged.

The convict's family refused to comment on the incident.

In China, the fight against corruption is very strict. In 2021, the former chairman of Huarong, Lai Xyoming, was also sentenced to death for a bribe of 1.79 billion yuan.
