According to footage circulating on social media, in China, an autonomous robotaxi hit two individuals at a pedestrian crossing, as shown in the video, while bystanders attempted to assist the victims.
According to information from local authorities, the incident involved a robotaxi identified with the label "Hello Autonomous Driving" and the number "3009." The vehicle reportedly passed the pedestrian crossing and continued southward, at which point the accident occurred. The victims were immediately transported to the Hunan Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment in intensive care.
The "Hello" company confirmed in its official statements that it had received information about the incident and is fully cooperating with other agencies in the investigation. So far, it has not been clarified whether the incident was caused by the autopilot system or a technical fault.
Following the investigation, the robotaxi service in Zhuzhou has been temporarily suspended.
Experts believe that alongside the expansion of autonomous vehicles in China, additional regulations and strengthened monitoring mechanisms will be required to ensure their safety.
