Putin Addresses War Situation at Press Conference

Putin clarifies the situation in the war during press conference

A large press conference and direct communication event, dedicated to the year's results, was held on December 19 in Moscow, with the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. During the nearly 4.5-hour dialogue, the head of state provided detailed answers to numerous questions from citizens and journalists. The main focus was on the war in Ukraine, the situation on the front, and future plans.

The president addressed the issue of responsibility for casualties between Russians and Ukrainians, emphasizing that Russia does not consider itself accountable for this tragedy. According to him, the conflict began in Ukraine following an unconstitutional armed coup. At the same time, Moscow expressed readiness to end the war through negotiations. However, the initiative, in Putin's words, lies with the Kyiv leadership and their European partners supporting them.

Speaking about the initiative in the war, the Russian leader stated that after the enemy was pushed back in the Kursk direction, strategic advantage shifted entirely to the Russian Armed Forces. This indicates that troops are advancing along the entire combat line. Although movements in some areas are fast and in others cautious, the enemy is retreating on all fronts.

Commenting on the overall situation on the front, Putin highlighted the capture of Seversk as an important step. This opens up opportunities to advance towards Sloviansk. Additionally, Krasny Liman is expected to come under full control soon; currently, about half of it is in the hands of Russian troops. The capture of Krasnoarmeysk has been assessed as a critical staging point for future offensive operations.

Touching on the topic of Kupyansk, Putin noted that the city came under Russian control several weeks ago. He stated that approximately 15 battalions, comprising around 3,500 soldiers, are encircled there. These troops have not been ordered to surrender their weapons, and their capability to resist is nearly exhausted.

Discussing the losses of Ukrainian Armed Forces, the president emphasized that as a result of Russian troops' active operations, the enemy has lost its strategic reserves. In his view, this should serve as a significant factor in pushing Kyiv to resolve the conflict peacefully.

In summary, Putin's latest remarks drew attention for clearly expressing the situation in the war, developments on the front, and Moscow's position.
