
On December 14, a shooting occurred at Bondi Beach during the Hanukkah celebration. According to police, homemade pipe and tennis ball bombs were thrown into the crowd beforehand, but they did not explode. The incident resulted in 15 deaths and dozens of injuries.
One of the suspects, Sajid Akram, was killed by police, and his son Naveed Akram is charged with 59 crimes. Police report that they planned the attack months in advance, scouted the area, and trained with weapons.
The New South Wales parliament is discussing new laws after the incident to limit firearm ownership, ban terrorist symbols, and control protests. Under the law, a person can own up to four guns, or up to ten for certain groups.
Currently, 13 people are hospitalized, including four in serious but stable condition.
