North Korean leader Kim Jong Un personally oversaw the launch of long-range cruise missiles. According to official media, the test took place on Sunday, and the missiles successfully hit their targets along the planned trajectory.
Kim Jong Un expressed satisfaction with the test and said that such exercises are necessary to ensure the country's security. He added that North Korea must be ready for various external threats and regularly check its military capabilities.
South Korean military also confirmed the missile launch. According to them, the missiles were launched from an area near Pyongyang. Seoul officials said recent North Korean military actions could negatively affect peace and stability in the region.
Experts say the test may have been aimed at checking missiles capable of carrying conventional and nuclear weapons. Some sources suggest additional tests could be conducted in the coming days, including around New Year’s.
