Over 40 killed in US “Venezuela operation”

On the night of January 3, at least 40 people were killed as a result of a US military operation in Venezuela, including civilians and service members. The New York Times reported this, citing a senior local source.

More than 150 military aircraft were used in the operation, including fighter jets and bombers. They took off from US Navy ships and various other military bases. A cyberattack was carried out at the start of the assault, causing power outages across much of Caracas. This enabled US aircraft to approach the city undetected.

US aircraft carried out sustained strikes across Caracas, primarily targeting radar systems and radio transmission towers. Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were captured by the elite special unit “Delta Force.” The operation was rehearsed on a replica of Maduro’s residence in Kentucky. Information on the Venezuelan president’s movements over the past few months was gathered by CIA agents in Caracas.

The US also conducted a naval campaign in the Caribbean basin for several months, attacking dozens of vessels. The Trump administration said Venezuelans on those ships were transporting drugs to the United States. According to the latest reports, at least 115 people were killed in these attacks.

These operations are expected to further intensify diplomatic tensions between Venezuela and the United States and could lead to major shifts in international politics.
