Despite Pressure from Trump, Venezuela’s Oil Exports Continue

Since the beginning of the year, about a dozen tankers loaded with oil and fuel have left Venezuela’s territorial waters. This has been reported by open data and industry sources. The vessel movements are being observed against the backdrop of strict restrictions imposed by the United States.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the ban on Venezuelan oil trade remains in force. Despite this, some tankers were reported to have departed in dark mode. According to the data, at least four tankers left the country’s waters on Saturday via a route near Margarita Island.

Experts say that all departing tankers are under sanctions, and most of them are used to transport Venezuelan oil to China. In addition, some smaller vessels left the country after completing domestic shipments or unloading imported cargo.

Due to U.S. restrictions, Venezuela’s state oil company has accumulated oil inventories and export volumes have declined. As a result, the company has reduced oil production and temporarily shut down some wells. Oil exports are the main source of revenue for Venezuela’s economy.
