The EU Ambassador responded sharply to Maria Zakharova's mockery

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova attempted to publicly mock EU Ambassador to Kyiv Katarina Maternova on her X microblog on February 3rd. It is said that Maternova posted a photo of herself sitting on a mattress in the bathroom of a hotel in Kyiv during another Russian air raid, and Zakharova sarcastically called this shot "a wonderful picture of her life."
Following this incident, Maternova posted a response post on Facebook on February 4th. According to her, the reason for Zakharova's attack is simple: the ambassador has been openly talking about the tragedies caused by Russia's attacks on Ukraine. Maternova sharply criticized Zakharova's attempt to "sexualize" the image of a woman in a shelter, noting that this exposes the nature of the regime represented by Zakharova, not her or the European Union.
The European diplomat emphasized another important aspect in his post: he spent the night in the bathroom, as Kyiv experienced another mass Russian strike using drones and missiles. In this situation, he recalled that millions of Ukrainians have been forced to sleep in basements, corridors, and shelters for years.
Maternova believes that "it's not funny" to talk about frozen houses, destroyed social facilities, and hospitals left without heating. He emphasized that mocking the suffering of civilians is not diplomacy, but pure propaganda. In the end, he stated that nothing could stop him from speaking to the world about the horrors Russia is inflicting on Ukraine.
Against this backdrop, data from the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also reveal a serious picture. According to reports, on the night of February 4, Russia attacked Ukraine with 105 drones, approximately 70 of which were Shahed-type. It is reported that the drones were launched from the Oryol, Bryansk, Primorsky-Akhtarsk routes, as well as from the Donetsk region and Cape Chauda in annexed Crimea.
The report notes that by this morning, 88 drones had been shot down or neutralized in the north, south, and east of the country, while 17 attack drones hit targets at 14 points and fragments fell at 5 points.
In short, although this conflict may seem like a "battle of posts," there is real danger, real nights, and real fear behind it. But one thing is clear: it's difficult to stop telling the truth - especially when millions of people feel it every day.
