Trump wants to ban mail-in voting

US President Donald Trump has issued a firm demand for a fundamental overhaul of election laws. He announced that he would not sign any legislation until the Senate passes the "American Voter Rights Protection Act." The head of state wrote about this on his page on the Truth Social social network. Reports dw.com.
Trump emphasized that the new bill should establish a "gold standard" for the electoral process. According to it, every voter must provide a government-issued photo ID and proof of citizenship. The president also demands the abolition of mail-in voting. Exceptions may be made only for military personnel, the sick, and individuals with disabilities.
This initiative is widely supported by Republicans. Although both chambers of the US Congress are currently under Republican control, Democrats are opposing the bill. They believe that such restrictions hinder ordinary citizens from participating in elections and complicate the voting process.
Trump appealed to Senate Republican leader John Thune, asking him to use special tactics to pass the law. His goal is to change election rules ahead of the 2026 midterm elections and solidify his position. Political analysts note that the ruling party in the US often faces difficulties in midterm elections, which is why Trump is trying to strengthen security measures now.
