US refuses to recognize Iran's new supreme leader

The appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran's Supreme Leader is causing intense debate on the international stage. Fox News host Brian Kilmeade reported that former US President Donald Trump has openly expressed his dissatisfaction with this decision. Trump called Mojtaba Khamenei inexperienced and labeled him a lightweight politician. According to him, a candidate who continues Iran's previous policy is unacceptable to Washington.

Donald Trump is concerned that this appointment could spark new war hotspots in the region. He emphasized that the US should exert its influence and participate in the process of selecting Iran's Supreme Leader. Recall that 56-year-old Mojtaba Khamenei became Iran's third Supreme Leader. His father, Ali Khamenei, ruled the country for 37 years and died at the age of 86 on February 28, 2025, following an Israeli airstrike on his residence in Tehran.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called this change an important step toward strengthening national unity. Nevertheless, Washington's sharp reaction indicates that relations between the two countries could become even more complicated. The world community is closely watching what foreign policy Iran's new leadership will pursue.
