A 22-year-old Uzbek citizen, Sevdora Hakimjonova, fell from the fourth floor of the apartment building where she lived in Izmir, according to Uzbekistan’s Consulate General in Istanbul.
She is currently receiving treatment at a state hospital, and doctors say her condition is serious. The consulate said it has taken the situation under supervision.
According to the information released, Hakimjonova had entered into a religious marriage with a Turkish citizen, but the union was not officially registered. The marriage ceremony reportedly took place in Chust district of Namangan region.
The couple later moved to Izmir and had been living in the same home with the groom’s close relatives. It was also reported that Hakimjonova’s husband, like her, has hearing and speech impairments.
Turkish law enforcement agencies have opened a criminal case over the incident. Investigators are working to establish all details of what happened, and the collected materials are being reviewed by the prosecutor’s office under the relevant procedures.
