At 9:35 PM Eastern Time, the Artemis II crew began their journey back to Earth. Astronaut Christina Koch, during a NASA broadcast, confirmed that the mission had set a new record for the farthest human presence in space, surpassing the previous record set by the Apollo 13 mission in 1970. The crew reached a distance of 407,000 kilometers from Earth.

The Orion spacecraft launched on April 1 from the eastern coast of the United States. Onboard are NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, along with Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen. The mission involved orbiting the Moon and testing new spacesuits capable of sustaining life for up to six days independently.
