Earth's population has exceeded the norm: scientists are expressing concern

Recent scientific studies indicate that the Earth's population has exceeded the planet's capabilities. This is detailed in an article published in the journal Environmental Research Letters.
During the study, scientists used a concept called "capacity." This approach serves to determine how many people can live without harming the planet's resources. According to estimates, the optimal figure is approximately 2.5 billion people. Meanwhile, the Earth's population has already exceeded 8 billion.
According to experts, the primary reason for such a sharp increase is the extensive use of fossil fuels. This process, on the one hand, increased the standard of living, and on the other, led to the excessive use of resources. As a result, short-term profits were achieved at the expense of long-term stability.
It is also noted that dependence on hydrocarbons exacerbates environmental problems. This situation also has a significant impact on climate change.
According to scientists' forecasts, the population will continue to grow in the coming years. According to forecasts, by the second half of the 21st century, the Earth's population could reach 11–12 billion people. This makes issues of global resources, ecology, and sustainable development even more relevant.
