The President of the United States, Donald Trump, commented on the G20 summit to be held in December 2026 in Miami and described the possible participation of Russian leader Vladimir Putin as “beneficial.” However, he also emphasized that he does not yet have exact information on whether Moscow has been officially invited and is not certain that Putin will take part.
Earlier, The Washington Post reported that Trump intends to invite the Russian leader to this summit. This is being viewed as a diplomatic move by the U.S. administration aimed at somewhat easing international pressure on Russia.
According to AFP, this initiative could help reduce Russia’s international isolation that emerged after the start of military actions against Ukraine in 2022. At the same time, official Moscow has not yet made a final decision.
The press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, stated that no specific decision has been made regarding Putin’s participation in the G20 summit. In addition, the RIA Novosti agency, citing Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin, reported that Moscow has received an invitation to participate “at the highest level.”
According to Pankin, everything remains uncertain for now: it is unknown how the situation will change before the summit takes place. This indicates that the international political environment remains unstable and uncertain.
“But we will see when the date approaches. What will happen before that, only God knows,” journalists quoted the diplomat as saying.
At the same time, Donald Trump said that he had also invited the leaders of Central Asian countries — including the heads of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan — to participate in the summit.
In short, diplomatic activity around the G20 summit has already intensified. The main question remains open: will Putin really take part in the summit in Miami, or will this remain only a political signal? Time will give the answer.
