Measles outbreak in Bangladesh: Hundreds of children dead

A sharp rise in measles cases in Bangladesh is complicating the epidemiological situation. According to the latest data, 459 children have died from the disease since mid-March this year.
It is reported that on May 18 alone, six more children's deaths were recorded. While one death has been officially linked to measles, it is suspected that the other five cases are also related to the same disease.
According to the Ministry of Health, 75 measles-related deaths have been confirmed through laboratory tests. The remaining 384 cases are suspected, and further investigations are currently underway.
Meanwhile, the spread of the disease continues at a high rate. In one day, 240 new confirmed cases were recorded, bringing the total number of patients to 7,700. Suspected cases increased by another 1,274, reaching nearly 58,000 in total.
Official data shows that since March, more than 42,000 patients have been hospitalized across the country with measles symptoms. It is reported that the majority have received medical care and have been discharged.
In the capital, Dhaka, the situation is becoming even more complex. Protests against officials are taking place due to interruptions in vaccine supply. Citizens are demanding an immediate resolution to problems in the healthcare system.
Experts emphasize the need to strengthen mass vaccination campaigns, strictly adhere to sanitary rules, and expand awareness efforts among the population to stop the spread of the disease.
