Toyota becomes the world's best-selling car brand in 2024, reported cenyavto.com. The Japanese company sold approximately 10.7 million new vehicles worldwide in 2024. However, demand for Toyota cars fell by 4% last year, meaning the company set another sales record despite a decline in purchases.
Interestingly, while Toyota remains the global leader, it sells very few electric cars. Out of the 10.7 million vehicles, only 140,000 were electric, accounting for just 1.3% of total sales.
This result is significant for many automakers, as it indicates that most of the world (except China) still prefers internal combustion engine vehicles over fully electric models. One of the key reasons for Toyota's strong sales is its presence in nearly every major market worldwide.
