There Are Four Times More Bacteria on a Car Key Than on a Phone!

The ordinary car key we carry with us every day is not just a piece of metal—it can actually be a serious health hazard. According to recent research by British specialists, this accessory is much dirtier than a mobile phone or even a keyboard.

MoneySuperMarket analysts microbiologically examined the keys of 2,000 drivers and reached a startling conclusion: every third person has never cleaned their key. It was noted that some people have used the same key for years without giving it the necessary hygiene.

Interestingly, the study found an average of 241 bacteria on car keys. For comparison, smartphones have 66, and keyboards have 68 microorganisms. This places the car key much higher when it comes to bacterial accumulation.

Even more concerning is that some of these bacteria, such as Staphylococcus epidermidis, can be dangerous to humans. It naturally lives on the skin, but in people with weakened immunity or those recovering from surgery, it can cause serious complications. In some cases, E. coli was also found.

To maintain cleanliness, experts recommend regularly wiping car keys with a soft cloth and soapy solution. Bleaching agents or submerging the key in water is not recommended, as this may damage the metal parts or internal electronics.
