How many electric cars did Uzbekistan import in 5 months?
In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the demand for automobiles in Uzbekistan. Between January and May 2025, over 18,000 passenger cars were imported into the country. This was reported by the State Committee on Statistics.

It was noted that the total value of imported vehicles during this period amounted to 325.3 million US dollars. Notably, more than half of this amount was made up of electric cars — 9,789 units. This indicates a growing interest in environmentally friendly vehicles in the country.

The majority of imported cars came from the following countries:

– China: 15,873 units,
– Republic of Korea: 1,882 units,
– India: 168 units,
– Japan: 122 units,
– USA: 82 units,
– Other countries: 260 units.

It is especially noticeable that the Chinese auto industry has gained absolute dominance in Uzbekistan’s market. This is confirmed not only by the numbers but also by the frequent presence of brands like “BYD”, “Chery”, and “Geely” on city streets.

Positive changes are also observed in local manufacturing. Between January and May, 153,814 passenger cars (excluding special light vehicles) were produced in Uzbekistan. This figure reflects stable growth in the domestic industry.

This activity in import and production is evaluated as a result of both growing population demand and the state policy directed towards new technologies.

Current trends indicate that competition in Uzbekistan’s car market will increase in the coming months, the range of options will expand, and the environmental situation is expected to improve. It can be said with confidence that now buyers will more carefully consider not only the model but also the type of engine.
