Why did Mercedes-Benz sales drop sharply?

In the third quarter of 2025, Mercedes-Benz, one of the world's largest car manufacturers, saw a significant decline in sales. According to Reuters, the company's global sales figures decreased by 12% compared to the same period last year.

The company noted that despite stable sales in Europe, South America, and the Persian Gulf region, the main decline was recorded in the Chinese market. According to Matthias Gaizen, a member of the board of directors of Mercedes-Benz, "based on the results of the third quarter, the current market conditions negatively affected our activities in China."

According to the data, sales in the world's largest car markets - the USA and China - decreased by 17 and 27 percent, respectively. This situation became one of the biggest difficulties for Mercedes-Benz in recent years.

Experts note that the company, like other German manufacturers, has faced new tariffs imposed by the US President Donald Trump government and increased competition from local manufacturers.

Mercedes-Benz also had to revise its previously established performance forecast for 2025. The main reason for this decision is the instability in the global market, especially the decline in demand in China.

At the same time, the company is trying to maintain stable sales figures in Europe and the Middle East. However, economic instability and geopolitical factors continue to put pressure on the automotive industry.

According to experts, the most important task for Mercedes-Benz will be to strengthen competition in the electric car market and restore confidence through new models.
