The electric car market is growing rapidly, traditional car sales have declined

According to the Center for Economic Research and Reforms, in September 2025, passenger car sales in the country amounted to 84.6 thousand units. Although this figure decreased by 6.4% compared to August, the electric car market, on the contrary, saw a historic growth - sales in this segment increased by 21.6% this month, achieving an unprecedented record.

Territorial difference in trade volumes

When analyzed by region, the largest decline was recorded in Surkhandarya and Navoi regions, as well as in the capital - the city of Tashkent. It is noted that the slowdown in the car market in these areas is due to seasonal factors and public expectations for the release of new models.

At the same time, the opposite picture was observed in Syrdarya and Tashkent regions - trade volumes in these regions increased. Experts explain this situation by a short-term change in the balance of supply and demand, the reopening of some models in domestic production, and the expansion of credit programs.

Decline in the new car market

Sales of new passenger cars in September amounted to 31.9 thousand units, which is 15.2% less than in August. Also, sales of new domestically produced cars decreased by 16.1%, amounting to 27.4 thousand units. Imported cars showed a decrease of -8.9% with a sales volume of 4.5 thousand units.

These indicators, according to experts, are associated with a seasonal decrease in household incomes, cautiousness in leasing and credit policy, as well as high prices for new models.

The used car market is stable

In the segment of used cars, absolute stability is maintained. In September, 52.6 thousand cars were sold - a practically unchanged figure compared to August (-0.1%). This is due, as analysts note, to the continuous demand for cars in the domestic market and the preservation of a price segment corresponding to the financial capabilities of the population.

Record result in electric cars

The most interesting result was recorded in the segment of electric vehicles. In September, the country sold 7.8 thousand electric vehicles - an increase of 21.6% on a monthly basis and the highest figure to date.

At the end of the third quarter of the year, electric vehicle sales reached 20.7 thousand units - 2.2 times more than in the same period last year. This growth is especially noticeable in the city of Tashkent, Tashkent region, and Samarkand region.

Environmental trend and market prospects

Experts note that interest in electric vehicles is due not only to fuel prices but also to increased environmental awareness of the population, the state's "green transport" policy, and a number of benefits.

The dynamics of sales indicate that in the coming years, electric vehicles may significantly increase their share in the domestic market. Energy saving, infrastructure development, and the increase in charging stations are expected to accelerate this process.

Conclusion: September showed a shift in two directions for the car market of Uzbekistan: a decline was observed in the segment of cars with conventional gasoline engines, while a historic growth was recorded in the electric car market. This trend means that the process of renewal in the transport sector is accelerating, and the environmental direction is becoming a priority.
