23-year-old actress Rachel Zegler, who played the lead role in the modern version of the “Snow White” fairy tale, admitted that the film’s failure seriously harmed her mental state. According to her, constant criticism and pressure forced her to turn to a psychiatrist.

Despite its large budget, the film did not achieve public success: it scored only 1.6 out of 10 on IMDb, one of the lowest ratings on the platform. The film grossed only $87.3 million at the box office, far less than its $270 million budget.
In one interview, the actress said, “I’m very sensitive to such situations. This isn’t even my personal failure, but the pressure was overwhelming.”
To deal with depression, Rachel returned to her parents’ house in New Jersey. She admitted to visiting a psychiatrist regularly and was prescribed anxiety medication. “If it weren’t for these medications, I wouldn’t have been able to live,” she said.
From the beginning, Rachel Zegler’s casting in the lead role sparked controversy among fans. Many were upset that a character described as “white as snow” was portrayed by a Latina actress.

Public criticism intensified after Zegler called the original 1937 film “outdated” and its romantic storyline “unhealthy.” She explained that in the new version, Snow White was meant to be portrayed as a strong, independent, and leading woman.
According to Forbes, this project has become one of Disney’s biggest failures. Harsh criticism, poor ratings, and public backlash affected not only the film but also the actress’s personal life.
Zegler is currently working on restoring her health and mental balance. “My psychiatrist was always by my side during this time,” she said. Fans are curious to see how she will overcome this challenging period.
