Major Instagram Purge: Celebrities Lose Millions of Followers

A large-scale audit and "purge" of bots and inactive accounts has begun on the Instagram platform. As a result, world-famous stars, bloggers, and celebrities have lost millions of followers in a short period. This was reported by Dzen.
According to reports, approximately 50 million accounts have been deleted or deactivated from the platform during this process.
One of the biggest losses was suffered by Kylie Jenner, who lost about 15 million followers. Additionally, football star Cristiano Ronaldo lost 8 million, and Lionel Messi lost about 5 million followers.
The Portuguese footballer lost about 8 million followers in one day—his count dropped from 673 million to 665 million.
The Argentine's follower count is now 5 million lower than before the purge—507 million instead of 512 million.
Furthermore, it was noted that the group BTS and singer Ariana Grande lost around 7 million followers each, Selena Gomez lost 6 million, and Taylor Swift lost 5 million.
Experts attribute this situation to Meta's new security policy. Under the new system, the platform is identifying and mass-deleting inactive profiles, bot accounts, pages lacking avatars or complete information, and accounts that artificially inflated their follower counts.
Although the statistics for many celebrities have changed drastically as a result, it is emphasized that this process is aimed at forming a "clean and authentic audience" on the platform.
