New trade agreement between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan approved

President of Uzbekistan has officially signed a decree to ratify the preferential trade agreement between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan. This significant legal step follows the initial signing of the deal on June 10, 2025, during the Tashkent International Investment Forum, where the document was finalized by Uzbekistan's Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, and Afghanistan's Minister of Industry and Commerce, Nuriddin Azizi.

The Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade, alongside the Customs Committee, has been designated as the primary body responsible for the implementation of this international treaty. Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been tasked with notifying the Afghan side that Uzbekistan has completed all necessary internal procedures required for the agreement to enter into force.

This development comes at a time of robust economic growth between the two nations. In 2025, the bilateral trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan experienced a substantial increase of 47.5 percent, reaching a total value of 1.678 billion dollars. The ratification of this agreement is expected to further strengthen economic ties and facilitate smoother trade operations across the border.
