Obesity risk among youth is increasing
In recent years, the number of overweight and obese young people in Uzbekistan has sharply increased. According to health experts, the number of individuals aged 15–30 who exceed the normal weight has reached record levels. The main reasons are poor nutrition, sedentary lifestyles, and smartphone addiction.

Doctors warn that being overweight not only affects appearance but also leads to cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, hormonal imbalances, and early development of bone-related issues. Especially concerning is the onset of obesity at a young age, which lays the foundation for serious illnesses in adulthood.

Local studies show that many young people are physically inactive, skip breakfast, and consume sugary, high-calorie foods or carbonated drinks instead.

Experts recommend fighting obesity through sports, healthy eating, and reducing screen time. Without timely action, the health of the next generation could be at serious risk.

Promoting a healthy lifestyle among youth, creating opportunities for sports, and reviewing school nutrition systems are essential strategies in the fight against obesity.
