Artificial intelligence may cause psychosis

The head of Microsoft’s artificial intelligence division, Mustafa Suleyman, recently issued a serious warning that a dangerous condition called “artificial intelligence psychosis” is increasingly spreading among many people. This was reported by The Times.

According to Suleyman, excessive interest in and dependence on artificial intelligence is growing rapidly. Some individuals begin to perceive AI as a conscious being, even believing that they are in supposed romantic relationships with it. As a result, various mental hallucinations have also been observed.

The most worrying aspect is that such a condition can affect not only people prone to mental illness but also completely healthy individuals.

— No matter how heavy it may sound, this issue may soon acquire a global scale. Both people with mental problems and those with stable psychology may fall under its influence, — said the specialist.

At the same time, “artificial intelligence psychosis” has not yet been accepted as an official medical term. However, it has already been observed that it causes users of chatbots such as ChatGPT or Grok to become detached from real life.

Medical imaging expert Susan Shelmerdin suggested that in the future, doctors may begin to ask patients, just as they do about smoking or alcohol consumption habits: “How often do you use artificial intelligence?”

Thus, artificial intelligence technologies have shown that it is time to think not only about their opportunities and convenience but also about the serious threat they may pose to mental health.
