Alimony amounts increased for unemployed citizens

In Uzbekistan, the amount of alimony payments for citizens without an official place of work or documents confirming a permanent income has been increased. Starting April 28, 2026, the procedure for calculating debt for such payers is being carried out based on new indicators.
In accordance with Article 140 of the Family Code, if there is no document regarding the official salary or income of the alimony payer, the debt is calculated based on the average monthly salary in the republic. The new calculation notes that this indicator has exceeded 6.8 million soums.
On this basis, alimony payments for unemployed citizens or those without official income have also increased significantly. Now, the payment amount for one child is 1.7 million soums. Alimony for two children reaches approximately 2.3 million soums, and for three or more children, it reaches nearly 3.4 million soums.
-The new payment amounts are as follows:
-For one child — 1.7 million soums;
-For two children — 2.3 million soums;
-For three or more children — approximately 3.4 million soums.
It is reported that the recalculation will be carried out automatically. This means that a separate application may not be required for each case to review alimony payments. Relevant calculations are updated based on current legislation and the established average salary indicator.
According to the Bureau of Compulsory Enforcement, this change will affect many payers, as 61 percent of alimony payers are not officially employed or do not have a permanent source of income. Thus, the new procedure is of great importance for a very wide range of citizens in practice.
This change is primarily aimed at protecting the interests of children. Alimony is not just a mandatory payment, but necessary funds for a child's daily needs, education, health, and living conditions. Not working officially or hiding income does not exempt one from financial responsibility toward the child.
At the same time, this situation has become a serious signal for alimony payers. Now, if no official income is declared, the calculation will be based on the average monthly salary. Simply put, saying "I don't work" is no longer a universal password to avoid payment.
Experts believe that such a procedure serves to ensure justice in the alimony system, protect children's rights, and increase payment discipline. Most importantly, child support should not suffer due to personal disagreements between parents or the lack of formal income registration.
