Uzbekistan and Malaysia have agreed to establish practical cooperation in the production of smart agricultural technologies and drones. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture.

It was noted that currently Uzbekistan and Malaysia are establishing cooperation in several areas in the agricultural sector. For this purpose, a delegation consisting of officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, heads of Tashkent and Kashkadarya regions, districts and clusters paid a working visit to Malaysia.

During the visit, it was agreed to launch practical cooperation in areas such as the production of smart agricultural technologies and drones, rice cultivation, fisheries, rubber cultivation, export of fruit and vegetable and silk products.

In particular, an agreement was signed with the Meraque company on the localized production of smart agricultural machinery and drones on the territory of the Research Institute of Agricultural Mechanization in the Yangiyul district of the Tashkent region.

In cooperation with the Fisheries Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security of Malaysia and the Uzbekbaliqsanoat Association, intensive fish farming, biofloc and shrimp farming projects based on new Malaysian technologies will be launched in Uzbekistan. By developing cooperation with the Malaysian Agricultural Marketing Agency, the export of fruits, vegetables and silk products grown in Uzbekistan will be launched.

Malaysian companies were reported to be interested in the production of drones in Uzbekistan in April 2023. In September 2024, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the leading Malaysian robotics supplier Meraque Group and the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan.

The company plans to invest 20 million Malaysian ringgit to establish a manufacturing facility in Uzbekistan that will create 1,000 jobs and serve 100,000 hectares of agriculture over the next three years. The company also plans to raise an additional 30 million ringgit for technological improvements in the region.

Founded in 2018, Meraque specializes in the production of a wide range of drones and software for them, as well as robotics. The company operates in Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, Laos and Pakistan.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that modern unmanned aerial vehicles - drones - are of great importance in agriculture.

“If we think about the future of the industry, we need to move to such a modern system as soon as possible. Special attention should be paid to the development of drone production, the creation of joint ventures in this regard and the training of personnel,” the head of state said.

Since November 2021, Uzbekistan has allowed the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for agricultural purposes with a maximum take-off weight of up to 100 kilograms (for other purposes no more than 25 kilograms). Due to the rather complicated procedure for obtaining permits for their import and use, the use of agrodrones in agriculture has not become widespread.
