Drugs hidden between brooms were discovered (photo)

An attempt to smuggle 612 kilograms of hashish hidden in broom handles in Surkhandarya was foiled in cooperation with the Customs Committee and the Border Troops of the State Security Service. The press service of the committee reported this.

As reported, on February 9, 2025, during the customs and border control of a cargo vehicle entering the territory of our republic through the "Ayritom" border customs post of the Surkhandarya regional customs department, based on the established technological scheme, a broom weighing 13.5 tons loaded on this vehicle attracted the attention of the officers.

After that, the vehicle was brought to the customs warehouse of the “Termiz” foreign economic activity customs post in the area adjacent to the “Ayritom” border customs post, and when the goods in it were fully inspected, it was found that 22,500 household brooms were loaded in 180 bags.

During a thorough examination of these brooms, it was revealed that polyethylene packages with an average length of 25 centimeters, wrapped with yellow tape, in accordance with the color of the broom, were skillfully hidden between the handles of 2,986 brooms.

When these packages were opened in accordance with the established procedure and in the presence of witnesses, it was revealed that they contained a pungent, dark brown narcotic substance weighing an average of 200 grams.

In this case, the substance in the packages, which were separated from 2,986 broom handles, according to the results of the initial rapid analysis, is the narcotic substance "hashish", and their total weight is 612 kilograms.

According to preliminary estimates, the black market price of this drug exceeds approximately $16.5 million.

Currently, preliminary investigations into the case are ongoing.
