
In March 2024, as a result of search operations conducted by employees of the Andijan Regional Department of the State Security Service, a secret underground tunnel was discovered connecting the territory of the "A. Navoi" MFI of the city of Khanabad with the village of Bekabad, Suzak district, Jalalabad region, Kyrgyzstan.
Through it, the activities of an organized criminal group engaged in the import and export of goods and material assets into the country were stopped.
Initially, a citizen of Kyrgyzstan was detained with material evidence while trying to smuggle 812 mobile phones worth 5 billion 954 million soums into Uzbekistan through the underground passage, and 1 kg 734 grams of substandard gold bullion worth 1 billion 558 million soums out of the country.
The urgent action continued, and in the homes of his 3 accomplices living in Andijan city and Altynkol district, it was discovered that there were 1,380 mobile phones worth 2 billion 839 million soums, 32 earphones, 920 adapters, 338 USB-C cables, and 40 chargers transported through the said underground passage, and they were processed in accordance with the procedural procedure.
The underground tunnel is located at a depth of 18-20 meters, its width is 60-70 cm, its height is 170-180 cm, and its length is 300-350 meters.
During the investigation, it was revealed that this organized criminal group was led by a citizen of Kyrgyzstan, who distributed tasks among the group members. Currently, a separate criminal case is being conducted against him.
The Andijan City Criminal Court found a citizen of Kyrgyzstan guilty of committing crimes under Articles 182 and 223 of the Criminal Code and sentenced him to 6 years in prison, and 3 citizens of Uzbekistan were found guilty under Article 182 of the Criminal Code and sentenced each of them to 5 years in prison.
In accordance with the court verdict, the goods and material assets seized from them, as well as the house in the A. Navoiy MFI of the city of Khanabad, were destroyed by burying an “underground tunnel” in it and confiscated for the benefit of the state.
In addition, the second underground tunnel discovered in the house of an Uzbek citizen in the “A. Navoiy” MFI of the city of Khanabad was also destroyed in accordance with the court verdict in the appropriate manner, and this house and the goods and material assets seized as material evidence were confiscated for the benefit of the state. The offender was sentenced to 5 years in prison.
During the investigation, it was found that various types of mobile phones transported from Kyrgyzstan through these underground tunnels were put up for sale in shopping centers in the cities of Andijan and Tashkent, and appropriate investigations are currently being conducted in this direction.
