On May 9 - the Day of Memory and Honor, a festive 5 km running competition - a marathon with the participation of 2,000 people will be held in Tashkent.
The event will be organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense, the Youth Affairs Agency, and the Republican Center for Spirituality and Enlightenment in the area adjacent to the Bunyodkor stadium.
It is noted that during the war years, Uzbekistan became the most important front-line center, 280 new enterprises were built here, the production of military products was launched, more than 2,000 aircraft, 19 thousand aircraft engines, 18 thousand mortars, 1 million grenades, and 22 million mines were produced. The republic received about 1.5 million evacuees, including 250,000 orphans. The courage of the Uzbeks is immortalized in the "Hymn of Courage" monument in the Victory Park in Tashkent.
It is noted that participants will be given a triangular envelope-letter, designed to resemble a front-line letter or with the names of front-line soldiers written on it. On the back of the letter, the name of an Uzbek soldier who died in the war, a brief biography or a quote will be given.
Each runner symbolically "delivers the letter to its owner" - he will stick it on a large memorial board, and those who reach the finish line will also stick pieces of paper with the names of the soldiers, thus creating a wall of memory.
Also, at the finish line, each participant will be given a small flag of Uzbekistan and a commemorative medal indicating that they have reached the finish line.
The event will conclude with the reading of several letters, the anthem and a daytime salute in the colors of the flag. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
