The issue of traffic jams and road accidents has once again become one of the pressing topics. On July 9, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on ensuring road traffic safety and improving infrastructure.
One of the most discussed issues at the meeting was traffic jams and the difficulties they cause in citizens’ daily lives. The President’s personal example further emphasized the seriousness of the situation.
“Last Sunday I was driving. Along with everyone else, I stood in a traffic jam for 15–20 minutes. I acted as an ordinary citizen among people. I did not demand that the road be opened for me. Later, I called the minister and asked him to put himself in such a situation,” said the head of state at the meeting.
Such words primarily encourage responsible officials and road service employees to pay attention to the real problems in the system. The fact that the President himself was stuck in a traffic jam and openly reprimanded the minister caused a wide public discussion. After all, traffic jams and incidents on the roads have long remained an unresolved issue.
Other serious issues related to road traffic safety were also raised at the meeting. For example, in 2024, 9,364 road traffic accidents occurred in our republic. As a result, almost 9,000 people were injured and 2,203 people lost their lives. Particularly high mortality rates remain in the Samarkand, Tashkent, and Fergana regions.
In the first half of this year, the number of accidents in 20 regions remains high. Despite the sad statistics, everyone knows — every life lost on the roads is not just an accident, but the result of systemic lack of control and irresponsibility.
At the meeting, the President said: “Unfortunately, in every fourth accident one person dies, or on average 6 people per day. This should seriously make everyone think.”
The head of state demanded that those responsible quickly identify shortcomings in the system, introduce modern technologies, and strengthen public control. In his opinion, road safety is not only the task of state bodies, but also a vital interest for every citizen.
In conclusion, it can be said: we should not be indifferent to traffic jams and road traffic accidents. The President’s personal attention to the existing problem once again showed the need for deep changes in the system. With new initiatives and decisive measures, ensuring safety on the roads must become our common goal. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
