21 young people arrested for joining terrorism in Namangan

In the Namangan region, 21 people influenced by terrorist ideas were detained. According to the State Security Service, these activities were carried out under the influence of the terrorist organization “Islamic State.” This incident caused great concern and attention among the public and local residents.

It is reported that the operational measures were conducted jointly by the regional department and internal affairs authorities. The leader of the group, residing in the “Yangiobod” mahalla of Pop district, opened illegal channels on social networks and distributed materials promoting the ideas of the terrorist organization. Through this, he influenced not only the youth in the mahalla but also family members and close relatives, leading them onto the path of extremism.

It was established that this person met via the internet a citizen of the Fergana region living in South Korea and involved him under virtual influence in terrorist activities. They underwent a religious marriage without parental consent and planned to migrate to areas where combat operations are taking place.

Participants in this criminal activity created hidden channels, involving members of the mahalla, close relatives, and persons prone to extremism. They disseminated the ideas of terrorists regarding committing murders, bloody battles, and overthrowing the current state system.

One of the citizens under the influence of the terrorist organization stated:

“I, through social networks, under the influence of the terrorists of the ‘Islamic State,’ opened channels on Telegram and distributed videos of killings and calls of terrorists. My goal was to migrate to Egypt, gain knowledge there, and then participate in jihad with the terrorists. Now I regret it and promise in the future to stay away from such actions, use the internet for the right purposes, and serve my family and people.”

Another person admitted that since January of this year he had joined the movement by watching religious videos and photos online, opened a Telegram account, and distributed materials calling for jihad and migration, including videos featuring the flags of the “Islamic State.” He also expressed regret for his actions.

It was revealed that these citizens had been warned several times but continued their activities secretly. During operational measures, religious literature, information carriers, and other evidence were officially documented in the prescribed manner.

As a result, a criminal case was initiated against 4 leaders of the group under Articles 244-1 and 244-2 of the Criminal Code, two of them were detained. Investigative actions are ongoing regarding the remaining 17 participants.

Thus, the operation against extremism and terrorist influence in Namangan attracted significant attention from the local community and youth. The importance of correct and responsible use of social networks and protecting young people from extremism was emphasized.
