Gold smuggling worth 20 billion soums uncovered at Uzbek border

In the Fergana region, a major rapid operation against illegal gold smuggling was carried out jointly by the State Security Service and the Border Troops. During the event, two citizens living in the Fergana district were detained. They illegally crossed the state border from the Kyrgyz Republic and brought into Uzbekistan gold items with a total weight of 19 kilograms 119 grams. The approximate value of these items is estimated at around 20 billion soums, reported the State Security Service.

It turned out that these individuals attempted to violate the state border and illegally transport material wealth. The detained gold jewelry, including crafted decorations and gold bags, was officially recorded as physical evidence.

Currently, the seized evidence has been sent for examination to determine their true value and origin. In addition, the issue of initiating a criminal case on this matter is under consideration. The responsible authorities emphasized the importance of this case in combating smuggling in the country.

Experts and law enforcement agencies call on the population to be cautious in such situations. Illegal import of gold and precious metals not only violates the law but can also lead to criminal consequences.

The State Security Service and the Border Troops regularly conduct such rapid operations, continuing strict control over the protection of the state border and safeguarding the country’s economy and material wealth.
