Trial underway for man who punched man in coma at nightclub

In the city of Tashkent, a quarrel and its serious consequences have become the subject of wide public discussion. During a fight near a nightclub, a citizen who tried to separate the participants and intervene in the situation received severe injuries and fell into a coma. It was previously reported that he was hospitalized with the diagnosis of “traumatic brain injury, torn wound on the right cheek, and alcohol poisoning.”

Now, a trial has begun regarding this incident against the accused — A.Sh., born in 1995. He has been charged under several articles of the Criminal Code related to intentional infliction of serious bodily harm, fraud, and hooliganism. The case is being considered in the Mirzo-Ulugbek District Criminal Court.

According to the press secretary of the Supreme Court, Aziz Obidov, the trial is being conducted not in an open, but in a closed format. The reason given is that information concerning the personal and family life of the defendant may be disclosed during the hearings, and there is also the need to ensure the safety of his family members. In addition, the decision is based on the principle of the presumption of innocence.

After the defendant’s lawyers filed a petition, the presiding judge granted it, and the hearings will be held in closed session.

The official statement emphasizes that as a result of the proceedings, a fair and lawful court decision will be ensured. It is also noted that since this case has attracted significant public attention, additional information will be provided to the media after the trial is concluded.
