Uzbek workers humiliated and beaten again in Russia

Another incident in Vladivostok has caused wide discussions on social networks and in the media. On September 13, on Khabarovskaya Street, a group of local young people attacked several migrants who were reportedly citizens of Uzbekistan, according to the publication “Vladivostok1.”

According to witnesses, at first the young people threw stones at cars in which the migrants were. Then, when the drivers got out to clarify the situation, they were attacked by the group. As a result of the attack, several people received injuries of varying severity.

The hooligans also recorded their actions on video. On the recording, the loud laughter of the author and shouts supporting the attackers are clearly heard. The footage contains cries of “hit,” demands to throw away a knife, and shows some migrants trying to defend themselves with a scooter. One young man tried to hide in a shop, but the pursuers followed him inside and struck him in the face. When someone warned that there was a camera in the shop, the video author replied: “I know,” and continued filming with laughter.

At present, the police have started an investigation into the incident. However, according to the publication, neither the victims nor the witnesses have filed an official complaint yet. It is also noted that the attackers may have been minors.

The Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Vladivostok was immediately informed about the incident. According to Consul General Yusuf Kobiljonov, quick contact was established with the victims, and they were provided with the necessary legal assistance. In addition, Uzbek citizens submitted an official application to the city Department of Internal Affairs. Notes were also sent to the representative office of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Vladivostok and the Primorsky Krai prosecutor’s office demanding that all necessary measures be taken regarding the issue.

It is reported that this incident has been placed under special control by the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Vladivostok and Russian law enforcement agencies.

It should be recalled that last month an incident circulated online in which a Russian man insulted an Uzbek taxi driver, using national offensive expressions. At that time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan also sent an official note to Russia requesting that the offender be held legally accountable.

Such incidents once again raise the issue of migrant safety. According to specialists, only cooperation between the government bodies of both countries and a decisive reaction from society can prevent such insults and attacks.
