A former customs officer residing in Qashqadaryo region was acquitted after 19 years. This was officially reported by the Supreme Court press service.
According to the information, Husniddin Choriyev once worked as a senior inspector in an area belonging to the Surxondaryo regional Customs Department. In the criminal case brought against him in 2006, he was accused of colluding with several individuals to secretly transport mandarins of a very large quantity without including them in the customs cargo declaration and bypassing inspection. Additionally, it was alleged that customs duties payable to the state were not paid, and Choriyev was suspected of causing significant harm to the state and public interests.
Based on these charges, the Qarshi city court for criminal cases sentenced him on October 31, 2006. Later, the appellate instance of the Qashqadaryo regional court confirmed this decision on December 27, 2006. As a result, Choriyev suffered legal consequences from an unjust sentence for more than nearly two decades.
However, after years of complaints and repeated appeals, the case was reviewed. On September 22 of this year, the trial panel of Qashqadaryo regional court as an investigative instance made a new decision. According to it, Husniddin Choriyev was fully acquitted and previous court rulings against him were cancelled.
Experts emphasize that this case demonstrates the practical effectiveness of judicial and legal reforms in our country. It once again confirms that justice can be restored, even if belatedly, for those unjustly sentenced.
At the same time, the public notes the necessity to pay even more attention to clarity and impartiality in court-investigation processes to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
