In the Samarkand region, a court verdict was issued in a case that greatly surprised people. Nurse K.A., who worked in the central hospital of Payarik district, was held accountable after attempting to take out a newborn baby and hand it over for money. This became known through court documents.
According to the data, on April 12, 2025, a medical worker named K.A. deceitfully took possession of a girl who had just been born to a mentally ill woman in the maternity ward. Later she attempted to give the infant to a local citizen, F.B., for money. The nurse handed over the child in exchange for 5 million soums and an additional 100 US dollars. It was established that the received funds were spent for her personal needs.
During the court proceedings, the investigative bodies considered all the circumstances. The act of selling the infant was assessed as a serious crime in accordance with Article 135, part 3, paragraph “a” of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. On this basis, the court found K.A. guilty and decided to sentence her to 5 years of imprisonment.
In addition, she was given an additional punishment — a two-year ban on working in the healthcare system in managerial or financially responsible positions. It was stated that this was intended as a preventive measure to avoid such cases in the future.
In the initial verdict, it was specified that the defendant’s car would be confiscated in favor of the state. However, the appellate instance changed this part of the decision and ordered the car to be returned to the owner. All other measures of punishment remained unchanged.
This incident caused wide public discussion. Because while medical workers are supposed to protect human life and safeguard the health of mother and child, the commission of such a grave violation caused serious concern among people. Experts assessed the nurse’s actions as one of the ugliest forms of criminality.
Thus, the judicial system once again demonstrated that ensuring the rule of law and protecting human life from illegal trade is an important task. Especially when it comes to the fate of a newborn child, the responsibility naturally becomes even stricter.
