In the city of Samarkand, a tragic crime occurred as two brothers tried to “discipline” their sibling who had become addicted to gambling. They tied him to a tree and beat him with an electric cable, resulting in his death, reported the “Zamon” news program.
According to reports, the tragedy took place on June 20 of this year. The 29-year-old victim had become deeply involved in online gambling and risk-based games. As his debts grew, his family tried to take control of the situation — but their actions ended in tragedy.
On the day of the incident, the brothers tied the younger man and beat him several times. The electric cable caused serious physical injuries, and after being brought home, the man died.
The victim’s wife testified in court, saying her husband was a kind man who was paying off his debts on his own. “My brother-in-law thought this would set him straight, but my husband had already paid his loan before the incident,” she said tearfully.
At the time of the event, the victim’s parents were in Russia. They took part in the trial as both victims and plaintiffs.
The Samarkand city court announced its verdict. The elder brother was found guilty under Articles 104 (Part 3, Clause “d”) and 138 (Part 2, Clause “a”) of the Criminal Code and sentenced to 8 years and 6 months in prison. The younger brother will serve 6 years and 6 months.
Experts emphasize that this tragedy once again proves how gambling addiction destroys not only wealth but also human lives. Fighting gambling is not just a legal matter — it is a moral duty.
