A lawyer appointed at the expense of the state in the Syrdarya region was detained on suspicion of bribery. According to the investigation, he demanded $5,500 from the suspect in the criminal case, promising a "positive resolution" of his client's case in court.
It is reported that the lawyer promised to transfer the suspect from the Khavast district to the detention center of the Internal Affairs Department of the Syrdarya district and later resolve the case in his favor in court.
During an operational event conducted with the participation of employees of the State Security Service and the prosecutor's office, he was caught red-handed while receiving part of the money - $4,500 and 6 million soums.
During the event, the funds were officially documented, and the lawyer's actions were recorded on video. According to the investigation, he was appointed at the expense of the state to protect the suspect, that is, his main task was supposed to be completely different - to protect the interests of the individual within the framework of the law.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office, a criminal case has been initiated under Article 168, Part 3, Clause "v" (fraud on a large scale) and Article 28, Part 1 (attempted collusion in bribery) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan.
Currently, investigative actions are being carried out against the accused. Law enforcement agencies assess this situation as one of the serious shortcomings in the system of providing legal aid at the expense of the state.
It is noteworthy that such a situation is not limited to the fault of only one person - this indicates the need to reconsider the issue of trust and responsibility in the system. Since the activities of lawyers are connected with the fate of a person, every action must be within the framework of the law and based on the criteria of conscience.
So far, the State Security Service and the prosecutor's office have not provided additional information on the results of the investigation. However, it is known that in such cases, all circumstances are thoroughly studied before the court makes a decision.
In society, such situations undermine not only personal interests but also trust in the entire legal system. Therefore, a decisive fight against such vices is not only a punitive measure, but also an important step towards improving the health of the system.
