Now, passengers of the Tashkent metro can devote their time during the journey to reading books. This opportunity arose thanks to the launch of the new "Turon Kitob Bekati" (Turon Book Station) project.
This initiative includes creating a network of mini-libraries in metro stations for public use. As part of the project, bookshelves have been installed at several stations.
The main idea of the project is based on the principle of free book exchange. Every passenger can take any book they like completely free of charge, and after reading it, they can return it to the bookshelf at any of the participating stations.
No student ID or any other formalities are required for this process. At present, the project covers seven major stations: "Turkiston", "Buyuk Ipak Yo‘li", "Beruniy", "Chilonzor", "Ming‘urik", "Toshkent", and "Do‘stlik".
The organizers emphasized that this is only a pilot project, and in the future, they plan to expand the network to cover all stations, including above-ground lines. The mini-library book collection has been formed to accommodate a variety of tastes.
There, along with classics of Uzbek and foreign literature, you can also find modern self-development books. This cultural project has been implemented with the support of the Republican Center for Spirituality and Enlightenment, the Ministry of Transport, the management of Tashkent Metro, and the financial assistance of a commercial bank.
The organizers of the project noted that the main goal is not only to make passengers’ time in the metro meaningful but also to increase public interest in reading books. This initiative is regarded as an important step in the state program aimed at the cultural development of the population.
