In Uzbekistan, on the path to lowering the level of air basin pollution, industrial enterprises have been assigned the responsibility to reduce the volume of toxic emissions by at least two times by December 1, 2025. If these requirements are not fulfilled, the sums of payable compensation will sharply increase.
Strict deadlines and legal basis
According to official data, the measures for the protection of atmospheric air have been further strengthened based on the Presidential Decree of May 31, 2023, and the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of November 25, 2024.
In accordance with them, industrial enterprises that exert a high degree of negative impact on nature are obliged to fully comply with environmental requirements by the following specific deadlines:
Enterprises falling into Category I – by January 1, 2026;
Category II enterprises – by July 1, 2026.
Fines increased up to 5 times
By the specified deadlines, enterprises must fulfill a number of important technical requirements:
Deploy automatic atmosphere monitoring stations and integrate them into the responsible bodies of Ecology and Climate Change;
Install high-efficiency dust-gas and water treatment equipment or modernize existing ones;
It is required to fully ensure sanitary protection zones with automatic monitoring posts.
It is noted that if these obligations are not executed, compensation payments for polluting the environment are stipulated to be applied in an amount increased up to five times.
The responsible agencies are reporting that these drastic measures are aimed at improving air quality in urban and industrial areas, reducing harmful consequences for public health, and raising the responsibility of enterprises before the environment.
