A fatal road traffic accident occurred in Tashkent’s Yashnobod district. The capital’s Road Traffic Safety Department reported it three days after the crash—after posts about the incident began circulating on social media. Podrobno.uz reports.reports.
According to official information, the accident happened on December 31 at 21:00 (Tashkent time) on Mahtumquli Street. Social media posts claimed that CCTV cameras near the scene were not working and that witnesses were being sought.
It is reported that a 24-year-old Lacetti driver hit a pedestrian who was crossing the road outside a designated crossing. The victim was a woman born in 1991; she died at the scene from her injuries. The deceased woman’s relatives said she had two underage children.
In connection with the incident, the Investigation Department of the Tashkent City Main Department of Internal Affairs opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 266 of the Criminal Code. Investigative actions are ongoing.
Later, dashcam footage circulated on social media: it appears the woman may have crossed in an unauthorized place on a red traffic light. The footage also shows that the driver did not flee the scene.
