Marriage remains stable and divorce rates stay low in Uzbekistan
In brief

Recent analyses confirm that Uzbekistan maintains a relatively high marriage stability rate, with a coefficient of 175.6 per thousand marriages, indicating that approximately 175 divorces occur for every 1,000 marriages. This figure is considered low on an international scale, especially when compared to countries like Moldova and Azerbaijan, where divorce rates are significantly higher. Experts attribute this stability to strong family values, traditions, and the social environment that support marriage. However, regional disparities exist, with higher divorce rates observed in urban areas like Tashkent compared to provinces such as Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya, suggesting a complex societal landscape.

Marriage remains stable in Uzbekistan, divorce rates stay low

According to the final indicators for 2025, the level of marriage stability in Uzbekistan has once again been confirmed as relatively high. Based on official analysis, the marriage stability coefficient in the country stood at 175.6 per mille. This means that there are an average of 175 divorces for every 1,000 marriages.

Analysis conducted by specialists from the Research Institute of Family and Gender shows that this indicator is considered low on an international scale. In other words, the stability of family relations in Uzbekistan is maintained better compared to many other countries.

Looking at comparative figures, the divorce rate is significantly higher in some countries. For instance, this indicator stands at 642.7 per mille in Moldova, 431.9 in Azerbaijan, 328.2 in Kazakhstan, and 289.6 per mille in Kyrgyzstan. Against the backdrop of these figures, the situation in Uzbekistan appears clearly more stable.

According to experts, such results indicate that family values are strong in society, and that traditions and the social environment play an important role in preserving marriages.

An interesting picture is also observed when looking at the breakdown by regions. While marriage stability remains at a high level in Qashqadaryo, Xorazm, and Surxondaryo regions, relatively more divorces are recorded in Tashkent city, Sirdaryo, and Tashkent regions.

In short, statistics are not just dry numbers—they reflect the mood of society. And for now, the signal is positive: the institution of the family is still operating in "stable mode."
